托福考试阅读长难句解析(上)

托福阅读考试中，文章里时不时就会出现几句长难句，这些长难句由几十个单词组成，复杂的句子成分，很容易让考生难以摸清大意，很多因此丢分的考生都直呼“心塞”。

　　托福阅读长难句1：

　　The Whigs were strongest in the towns，cities，and thoserural areas that were fully integrated into the market economy，whereas Democrats dominated areasof semisubsistence farming that were more isolated and languishing economically.

　　托福阅读长难句分析：whereas结构

　　在城镇和那些与市场经济完全接轨的农村地区辉格党的势力最强;而民主党控制经济上孤立而薄弱的贫穷农业地区。

　　分句1：The Whigs were strongest in thetowns，cities

　　分句2：and those rural areas that werefully integrated into the market economy

　　Coincident with concerns about theaccelerating loss of species and habitats has been a growing appreciation ofthe importance of biological diversity，the number of species in a particular ecosystem，to the health of the Earth andhuman well-being.

　　托福阅读长难句分析：倒装coincident with concerns…has been…=…has been coincident withconcerns…

　　在对物种和动物栖息地加速消失表示关注的同时，人们也越来越认识到生物多样化，即一个特定生态系统中物种的数量对地球的健康以及人类幸福的重要性。

　　分句1：Coincident with concerns about theaccelerating loss of species and habitats has been a growing appreciation ofthe importance of biological diversity

　　分句2：the number of species in aparticular ecosystem

　　分句3：to the health of the Earth andhuman well-being

　　分句1内部构成倒装，正常语序应该是concerns about theaccelerating loss of species and habitats has been coincident with a growingappreciation of the importance of biological diversity to the health of theEarth and human well-being，所以真正的主句经过精简之后是concernshas been coincident with a growing appreciation，分句2是一个插入语，用来解释说明分句1结尾的biological diversity。
