　　1. What’s the most important quality that a good neighbor should have?

　　When I get in trouble and feel upset about my work or study, I can visit him and talk my heart out with him. He can cheer me up by encouraging me and even tell me some funny jokes. In the daily life, having a comic neighbor around is a pleasant thing. You know, I can invite him into my house in some festivals and birthday celebrations. He is the man who can bring laughter and happiness to all of the people.

　　2. Some people prefer to watch entertainment TV programs while others prefer to watch educational programs. Which do you prefer? Why?

　　I prefer to watch entertainment programs, such as movies, music programs, talent show. You know, I feel happy and relaxed when I watch this kind of TV programs with my family every evening, after dinner. Both of my parents and I are busy on our works and studies, so we have little time to get together with each other every day. Watching entertainment TV together everyday is the happiest time during the whole day. We always like to watch a program called the voice of china. We often laugh a lot and get touched a lot by watching it.

　　3. What suggestions would you give to your friend who wants to improve his or her scores in class?

　　If my friend asks me for help in improving his scores, like English scores, I will suggest him to find a variety of reading and listening materials on internet. Such as some English magazines, like New York Times, economist. That kind of materials can broaden his horizon, enlarge his vocabulary and help him improve reading skills. He can also watch some American documentaries and soap operas. It’s an effective way to practice English listening and speaking. It’s also more interesting than just reading textbooks.

　　4. Some people play games for enjoyment. Others play games in order to win. Which do you prefer and why?

　　Sample 1:

　　I prefer to play games just to enjoy myself. I usually play games on my cell phone, like angry birds. When I wait for someone or wait for the bus, I will play games just to kill the time. These kinds of games are funny and doesn’t cost me a lot of time. The characters in the games are very cute. On the other hand, if I play games in order to win, I will spend a lot of time playing them every day. That will take up the time for study and doing something more meaningful than that. Putting too much time on games is also bad for my eyesight.

　　I’ll definitely say that I play games for enjoyment. I play computer games a lot, my favorite one is DOTA——defense of the ancient. I always play with my roommates on weekends. We are all busy on our studies during workdays, so we have little time to get together with each other every day. Playing computer games together is the happiest moment during the whole week. It’s a game based on teamwork, so whether I win the game or not depends on the cooperation of the whole team. It doesn’t matter that we win or lose it. We just enjoy the time when we enjoy the time together.

　　In my opinion, being far away from home is the most difficult part. Even though my university and my home are in the same province, it’s about 500 kilometers far away from each other. That means I have to take 7 hours to go home from school by bus. So I only go back home about three or four times a year. I miss my parents a lot when I’m in school. Most of the time, I always directly go there to do some jogging with my friends after school. We jog along the small paths in the park. After doing exercise, we always sit in one of the benches there, just chat about the funny things happened during the day. With the colorful flowers and the fresh air, we feel very refreshed. I think it is the happiest moment in the whole day.

　　7. Some people like to have a break or get a job during summer vacation. Others think it is better to take a class. Which do you prefer and why?

　　I prefer to take a break during summer holiday, because I’m very busy and tired when I have class. I have to get up at 6 a.m. and have class until 10 p.m. During the day, I keep studying all the time except for having lunch and dinner. It’s necessary for me to have a good rest and refresh myself in summer holiday. I can have enough sleep every day. There is also a lot of time to travel to other places. I can see various cultures and try all kinds of local food. I will feel fulfilled and relaxed after travelling.

　　8. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? College education should only be available to people who have done well in secondary school.

　　I agree with the statement. You know, the seats in college are limited, especially here in China. There are millions of middle school graduates who are looking forward to go to college. If they all have access to university, it’s obvious that the facilities and faculty are not enough. So they aren’t able to enjoy high level education. Also, students who do well in middle school have better academic background. So they can do better in college than other students. Like the College Entrance Examination in China. Students who get good grades can go to university.

　　9. Do you like to prepare for something in the beginning or wait just before the due date?

　　I think to prepare in the beginning is better, because I can have more time to prepare for my assignment. Like writing a paper, if I start searching for materials in advance, I can do better than do it in hurry. Also, preparing in advance means I can finish it before the due date. It’s a good way to release the pressure and burden quickly. For example, if I finish my assignment early in summer holiday, I will feel relaxed and enjoy myself during the rest of the holiday, without worrying about it all the time.

　　10. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? In order to be successful, a person should study in the university.

　　I agree with the statement. I believe that people with higher level of education will have professional academic background. That will help them a lot when they want to open their own business, because they have a better understanding of their fields. Also, the friends and classmates they meet in university may lend them helpful hands when they are in trouble. On the other hand, for students who want to get a good job after graduation, having a higher degree will help them a lot when they hunt for jobs. Because, you know, big companies prefer the graduates who have higher degree than those who just graduate from middle school.

　　11. Do you agree or disagree that assignments handed in after the deadline should receive a lower score?

　　I think it depends on how long you delay your assignment. If you delay for a short time, like in one or two days due to some accidents or something emergency. For example, forgetting to bring the finished homework to class or failing to submit it by email because the internet problem. I think it’s understandable. If you are graded lower than others, it’s unfair. On the other hand, if you delay the assignment for a long time, that means you are inefficient in doing things. So if you aren’t punished by receiving lower grades, it will be unfair to other students.
