  Perhaps no aspect of EQ is more important than our ability to effectively manage our own negative emotions, so don't let them overwhelm us and affect our judgment. In order to change the way we feel about a situation, we must first change the way we think about it. One essential way to deal with negative thoughts is to separate fiction from fact. The next time you find yourself facing a negative though, analyze the situation and ask whether you’re reacting to a real and imagined situation. Also, make sure that you surround yourself with people who love and support you. If criticism is coming from external sources, remove yourself from the environments that encourage negativity. Your job is to ensure that the voice in your head is positive and supportive at all times and not negative and critical. I believe any negative pattern can be broken but you must fill the void with positive and supportive thoughts.
