　　题目：If you were asked to send one thing representing your country to an international exhibition, what would you choose ? Why ? Use specific reasons and details to explain your choice.

　　如果你被要求送一样可以代表你国家的东西到一个国际展览，你会选择什么? 为什么?用具体的原因和细节解释你的选择。

　　范文如下：

　　When asked to send something representative of their country to an international exhibition, most people tend to think of specific objects. However,I would send something completely different: one week’s worth of television programming. I feel that TV programs are a good representation of my country because they show how we live, what we value, and what we teach our children.

　　◎ 这个开始段写得好，最大的特点是：清晰 ( clarity ).清晰的中心论点 (thesis statement ): one week’s worth of television programming.让读者一开始就了解文章的“统摄性 governing”的观点。随后，作者列举了三个论点：展示了我们如何生活(how we live)，我们珍视什么( what we value )，我们教孩子们什么( what we teach our children)。”万事开头难“，有了这个开始，这篇文章的”连贯 coherence”就有保证，读者也就有了“没有悬念的阅读”，这正是托福独立性写作的核心：展示“三识“---知识( knowledge )，常识 ( common sense ) 和见识( insight )。事实上，ETS的评委并没有一定要期待”惊世骇俗的论点“，观点只要清楚，合理即可。下面，就是一个”自圆其说 。Convincing “的过程。

　　TV programs show how we live in my country. For example, they show the different ways we make our living. The different kinds of houses we live in, the different types of relationships we have, and the different sorts of activities that fill our days. In short, they give a broad representation of daily life in my country.

　　◎ 段落写作中，可以展示一个考生写作能力的要素是三个：衔接cohesiveness, 逻辑logic and 措辞wording 。这一段中的 cohesiveness 在哪里? For example...... In short......,一个是“例证 examplification “,另外一个是 ”总结 summarization “, 让读者能一下“辨识 identification “”Inter-sentences logic 句际逻辑”。这是段落写作中需要经常练习的。其次是逻辑，逻辑要如何得到保证? “语法 grammar”,这一段中用了一个宾语从句，四个定语从句。尤其是四个定语从句的使用，是按照排比结构来使用的，这种语言上的处理，又把英语写作提升到了一个高度：”修辞 rhetoric “.再来看”措辞 wording”,从题目中的 “representative 到这个段落中的representation “这样的词性转换应用了英文语法的另外一个概念”nominalization 名词化“，这让整个作文的行文更加”抽象abstract”和”正式 formal “.

　　TV programs also show what we value in my country. Comedy programs, for instance, demonstrate what we think is funny, while documentaries show what issues we are concerned about and how we want to resolve them. Sports programs show which sports are more and less popular as well as how we approach competition. In general, the range of programs that appear on TV demonstrate what we think is important and interesting and worth our while to spend time on.

　　◎ 这一段写作值得学习的是写作手法和语言的表达。写作手法来说，最主要的是对”value”的解释，使用了”classification 分类“的方法：comedy, documentary and sports，选择表现”价值“的这三个方面具有代表性，也是文章中心”电视“最主要的内容。在语言写作上： demonstrate what is funny; show what we concern and how we resolve; how we approach competition. 这几组词的动词搭配和选择非常”准确 accurate”,符合语言“达”的层次。

　　Children’s programs show what we think is important to teach our children. Some programs are designed to specifically teach reading and math skills. Others expose children to classic stories from literature or to traditional folktales. And some programs, such as cartoons are simply meant to be enjoyed, which is also something we teach our children to do.

　　You can learn a good deal about a country by watching its television programs. You can learn about daily life, values, and education. That is why I would send a week’s worth of TV programs from my country to an international exhibition.
