　　Society keeps progressing, so does the literacy level. Then appears a controversy whether raising children becomes easier today than 50 years ago. As for me, I cast serious doubt on it and I think there are many external factors leading the education of young people to be intricate than before.

　　Firstly, too much reliance on the high technology is to the detriment of children’s growth. Specifically speaking, parents can hardly supervise and restrict their children’s behavior. Examples happening around us can be seen quite often. One sensational piece of News last year was reported about three girls who saw an advertisement posted on an encrypted website about the professions provided by ISIS that, as everyone knows, is a self-proclaimed nation but actually a terrorism organization and finally joined in the group successfully. The horror hit their parents and local government manifested that the supervision on Internet needs to be strengthened and there was no updated reports about it. Except for that, the phenomena about teenagers’ addiction to video games have swept all over the world. Even some college students cannot resist the lure from the virtual world and adolescent obesity can also be partly ascribed to their spending lots of time watching TV programs. Accordingly, technological advancement has already increased the difficulties of managing children.

　　Secondly, economic growth, overall speaking, improves average citizens’ well-being. However, the ensuing enormous pressure has made it necessary for every common family to fight for a living. In the last century, it could be commonly seen in China that parents made a living in the big cities and had to leave their children in their hometown that would be raised by their grandparents and the generation gap and the stereotyped concepts of last old generations were a huge obstacle to educate children. In the recent decade, the situation has become ameliorated, however, the pressure keeps rising and parens have to be fully devoted to their career. Thus, the time spent with their children could be extremely limited. For instance, a computer programmer is supposed to spend at least 9 hours dealing with his job and staying with his families appears to be impractical. Consequently, raising children becomes much more difficult than before partly because of huge pressure from the society.

　　Admittedly, the level of education at schools has experienced an increase. Thus, some people may argue that students will become more autonomous and self-disciplined. However, those people may fail to take into account the fact that current public education system lays much more emphasis on the development of students’ academic capabilities and downplays the importance of cultivating their personalities and characteristics. Besides, students are also under enormous pressure from both teachers and their peers and they should be taken good care of by their parents.

　　In a word, it is totally a different story when it refers to raising children compared with 5 decades ago. (483 words)
