　　Although many Chinese farms are converting to organic agriculture, pesticide use in many areas remains high. farmers intensively use fertilizer and pesticides(化肥和农药) to maintain high food production. In early 2006, Greenpeace tested vegetables in two Hong Kong grocery stores, and discovered that only 30% of their samples contained acceptable amounts of pesticide residue(可接受的农药残留). Some of the 70 percent failing the tests tested positive(检测呈现阳性) for illegal pesticides, such as DDT and HCH. Greenpeace explained that nearly 80% of vegetables in these grocery stores originated from mainland China. Farmers in China have little knowledge of correct pesticide use.

　　2️⃣2008 Chinese milk scandal 使用食品添加剂使得现在的食物不健康

　　There have been numerous incidents involving food safety (食品安全事件)including the unconventional use of dangerous chemical additives such as food preservatives or additives(食品保鲜剂或添加剂) and the use of unhygienic starting materials(不卫生食材) as food ingredients. The 2008 Chinese milk scandal was a food safety incident in China. The scandal involved milk and infant formula(婴幼儿奶粉) along with other food materials and components being adulterated with melamine(掺杂三聚氰胺). The chemical gives the appearance of higher protein content when added to milk, leading to protein deficiency in the formula. China reported an estimated 300,000 victims in total. The World Health Organization referred to the incident as one of the largest food safety events it has had to deal with in recent years. A spokesman said the scale of the problem proved it was "clearly not an isolated accident, but a large-scale intentional activity to deceive consumers for simple, basic, short-term profits.(此事件并非个例，而是大规模有预谋的欺骗消费者的大范围事件)"

　　Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang said, "Food is essential, and safety should be a top priority(重中之重). Food safety is closely related to people's lives and health”. The government departments that oversee and enforce policies have overlapping and often ambiguous duties(职责重叠模糊). Thisunclear division of duties(职责分工不清) has created conflict and confusion when citizens have sought to complain or when a major crisis needed to be resolved. In this case, there have been numerous incidents involving food safetyin the PRC including the unconventional use of pesticides or other dangerous chemical additives as food preservatives or additives and the use of unhygienic starting materials as food ingredients. Therefore, the Chinese government is supposed to consolidate food safety regulation(加强食品安全管理). To be more specific, a special department should be created to oversee agricultural production(监督农业生产) as well as the manufacture of food packaging, containers and chemical additives more tightly.
