　　An increasing number of student cheat on homework. Which of the following actions should the school take to deal with this problem?

　　-Monitoring and supervision from parents

　　大意：越来越多学生完成作业时会作弊，你觉得学校该采取什么措施：

　　1.家长监督

　　2.惩罚更严格

　　3.老师布置很难的作业

　　Among all misbehaviors of students, the most intolerable offense for teachers and school administrators is academic plagiarism, whose terrible consequence is quite obvious. Given its significance, schools are sparing no efforts to combat with the phenomenon of cheating on homework among students. In order to properly handle this issue, I strongly believe that putting much stricter punishment is the most feasible way.

　　Firstly, the harsh punishment will deter students from attempting to copy other’s assignments. As is common sense, the primary function of punishment is to serve as a deterrent, whose effect can be conspicuously seen in the criminal world. The same logic also goes for students in schools. In other words, these schoolers are less likely to plagiarize others’ homework, if they know there are going to be severe consequence for their actions. For example, in my college, there are a set of rigid norms of academic honesty so that anyone who violate them has to pay a huge price. To be specific, once you are caught copying answers from a friend, both of you and your friend will face punishment such as failing the entire course and even being suspended or expelled. Under the deterrent of such a harsh punishment, students will think twice before cheating on homework.

　　In addition, the other two approaches to tackling the plagiarism are either infeasible or have counteractive effect. For one thing, the measure of asking parents to monitor their kids will not help to reduce the number of students copying homework from others. To illustrate, especially in such a society with a rapid life pace, parents don’t have time to supervise the process of their kids finishing tasks because they usually have to work overtime. The mismatch between the spare time of students and parents makes it impossible to carry out this method. For another, assigning more difficult tasks to students just makes the situation worse. According to a survey conducted by the newspaper titled The Garden of Education among 10,000 pupils, nearly 90% of the surveyed complained that some assignments went beyond their age and ability and admitted that they may have to copy others’ answers in order to finish these tasks on time. As is shown above, the more difficult the homework becomes, the higher the likelihood of kids cheating will be.

　　All in all, we can conclude that punishing those students who commit plagiarism in a harsh way is the most effective.
