托福写作如何巧用同义替换

　　首先请同学们阅读一段话，“In the past, a lot of people thought that spending time in reading is meaningless. However, nowadays a lot of people thought that it is important to spend time in reading. As for me, I agree that people should spend time in reading. ”

　　请问同学们上述段落中，“a lot of”，“thought that” 和 “ spending time in reading” 分别出现了几次呢?这样的反复用词适合托福写作吗?有没有什么方法能够摆脱反复用词呢?

　　我想，聪明的你肯定已经想到了——同义替换。

　　说到在托福写作中“同义替换”这个概念，想必同学们一定不陌生。因为《官方指南》的“评分标准”中明确提及，托福写作的用词应该是complex, various and idiomatic。那么，为了达到“评分标准”，同学们的写作不可避免会使用“同义替换”，但是“同义替换”的方法有哪些呢?接下来我给大家总结几大方法。

　　替换名词

　　1. 表达“各种各样的人”，除了people外，还有其他的表示人的方式：

　　总称：human, the public, individuals, citizens, residents

　　年轻人：young people, the youth, juvenile, adolescents, teenagers, teens

　　老年人：the old people, senior citizens, the elders

　　2. “问题、困难以及目标”也是托福写作中经常考察的内容：

　　困难：difficulties, challenges, problems, troubles, dilemma

　　目标：aims, goals, purposes, intentions, objectives

　　后果：results, consequences, the outcome

　　替换动词

　　1. 写作文常使用“产生和引起”以论述因果逻辑：

　　produce, generate, create, pose, cause, arouse, lead to, result in

　　2. 托福写作经常给大家一个话题，需要“处理”和“重视”：

　　处理：resolve, solve, handle, settle, tackle, conduct, deal with, cope with

　　重视：highlight, pay/draw attention to, attach importance to, concentrate on, focus on, put emphasis on, lay stress on

　　替换形容词

　　1. 表达态度时的“好”如何使用呢：

　　admirable, desirable, rewarding, satisfying, worthwhile, beneficial, advantageous

　　2. 行文时遇到“不同的”：

　　different, distinctive, divergent, diverse, various, varied, a variety of
