来,打开《新托福写作真经6》,翻到79页,找到那道神秘的“二选一”的题目。


托福写作之二选一


　　Teacher’s NOTE:

　　So many times, when we read the question, we just browse the words for a rather general idea and neglect the key information that distinguishes a question from another, which may be phrased in a similar way but have a different focus.


　　Teacher’s NOTE:

　　In this question, we may make the mistake of overgeneralization and misunderstand the question as a comparison between work and study. As a matter of fact, the distinguishing difference between the two options given is that Option 1 focuses on getting paid AS SOON AS POSSIBLE whereas Option 2 focuses on NOT SOON BUT MORE YEARS.


　　Teacher’s NOTE:

　　Therefore, our discussion should respond to this conflict rather than to a general idea of working or studying. The following paragraph is a good sample of responding specifically to the key point of discussion.


　　从Option 2的考虑切入,让步缓一步:The opposition is not unreasonable.(措辞:双重否定) ←信息进展的“缓急”/ 短长句搭配→Their defense(“辩护”)may be that those who spend a few more years in the school can sooner or later catch up with or overtake their seniors because the few more years may prepare them better for the jobs.考虑是否继续展开。决定展开(简要补充):Admittedly, there are instances that workplace new comers are promoted fast after they join a company because of their superior educational backgrounds.用短句缓一下信息的进展速度→However, those cases are not the commonplace.←(转折这一句是一个常用的反驳“套路”,后面紧跟着具体的理由→As a matter of fact, in many businesses, resources must be taken as early as possible, and so is the case of the positions.用长句陈述重点信息→No matter how many more offers a graduate of a four-year or five-year program can receive, he or she may find that positions are already filled by their two-year or three-year counterparts, and would wish(措辞:虚拟语气来表达不可能实现的情况和对此的遗憾)that the many employment opportunities could be traded for the resources, which are already taken by others. At this point, this graduate may wish(措辞:虚拟语气来表达不可能实现的情况和对此的遗憾)that he or she had chosen the “faster” major.
