　　All subjects are inter-related and not a single one can stand absolutely alone. Besides, today's society has an increasing demand of talents with comprehensive skills. Even those experts or scholars specializing in a certain field might cover a vast spectrum of knowledge in order to succeed. Their careers and academic achievements are associated considerably with the broad subjects they have explored throughout the years. Needless to say, I support the notion that studying a wide range of subjects is far better than confining oneself to a specific field.

　　The first factor lies in the truth that the modern world belongs to talented individuals with broad overall abilities. Covering a wider range of subjects at school equips students with knowledge that should be mastered by a normal member of society. The unprecedented advancement in technology has brought forth a reality to be faced by future graduates; that is, the grasp of one specific subject is far from enough. Versatile individuals should be morewelcome and competitive in all professional areas. Take the IT field for example: it involves basic knowledge from many subjects, including mathematics, physics, and even the socialsciences.

　　Secondly, studying broad subjects may help arouse the students' interest in learning, while limiting to one specific field may sooner or later result in boredom. Interest is the best teacher. The involvement in a variety of different subjects broadens students' knowledge base and opens their minds. They are endowed with the opportunity to master the essences of different subjects. As soon as a natural association between subjects is uncovered, enthusiasm may be sparked. We could easily imagine the delightful moment when a familiar term typical to chemistry is encountered while reading an article in a textbook of biology.

　　Finally, as for those who specialize in a specific field of study, it may be unavoidable to refer to other related subjects. Interdisciplinary interactions need to be conducted. Therefore, it is imperative for educators to guide the students to broaden their studies no matter whatprofession they will pursue after graduation. As a matter of fact, experts are all comprehensively talented individuals who have assimilated multifaceted knowledge from many areas, and are able to apply it with ease.

　　Therefore, with the goal of becoming outstanding social builders, students ought to have long-termperspectives on the subjects chosen at school. Success only belongs to those with prepared minds. From what has been discussed above, we may conclude that the coverage of broad subjects paves a way for students to be qualified competitors in the future.
