Driven by the market-based economy, modern society has witnessed the formidable power of money. Not only business people, but also the whole working-class are joining in the endeavor for greater profits. Indeed, money isn't everything but no one can do without it. As the major forces of economic and social development, enterprises are doubtlessly motivated by the desire to gain as much money as possible. However, it is unfair to assert that the pursuit of money is the only purpose of business people.

Firstly, the desire for money is the most fundamental initiative of most business people. This complies with basic economic laws. The preservation of capital is the prerequisite condition that sustains the survival of an enterprise. Therefore, in order to ensure the smooth operation of the entire organization, it is definitely reasonable for business people to attach great importance to profits. Only when a business is competent in making enough money can it continue to invigorate the market.Such a rule is typical in today's market-based economy. If a company suffers losses consistently, it might face crisis and even bankruptcy. This will in turn produce negative impacts on the development of an economy as a whole.Consequently, the desire for money must be found in every business regardless of its scale and characteristics.

However, in spite of the essential pursuit of money, business people should never neglect social morality. It is extremely unwise to regard profit-making as an only motive. Admittedly, the earnest demand for gaining the largest profits possible sometimes might be contradictory to morals. In order to avoid losses and survive the harsh competition in the business arena, a number of business leaders are likely to come up with evil ideas. This explains the emergence of fake merchandise goods and exaggerated advertisements. What's worse, some even conduct commercial fraud. Such excessive obsession with money-making may incur unhealthy competition and pose a threat to the fairness of the whole market. It will also tremendously harm the interest of consumers. Thus, all enterprises ought to be responsible social units that value morality.

Truthfully, the current social and economic conditions have ascertained the simple fact that beyond business people, people from all walks of life are motivated by the desire for money. As for ordinary citizens, unprecedented life pressure requires them to work diligently to make ends meet. Soaring prices of consumer goods, housing and other daily necessities urge people to consider money-making as a most crucial duty every day. Likewise, no matter how difficult the reality may be, all social members ought to be conscientious money-makers who never betray basic morals.

In sum, the business world is constructed on the foundation of profits. It is understandable for those who are engaged in such a field to embrace the desire to earn as much money as possible. Nonetheless, if the only intention of all business pursuits is for financial gains, society will not develop healthfully in the long run. Therefore, all professionals should maintain essential social morals before striving to make money.
