Natural sciences and liberal arts constitute two major branches of studies in institutions of higher learning today. As soon as high school students are admitted into the university, they are assigned to academic courses and begin to focus his or her own major. Some educators promote that regardless of the distinctive fields of studies, university students should be required to take basic science courses. Personally speaking, I am willing to express my support to such a proposal.

As a matter of fact, all fields of studies are interrelated and supportive of each other. Students of liberal arts need to learn the basic knowledge of science. To further illustrate, the ability to think logically is what they could gain from such science subjects as advanced mathematics. Art students could take advantage of these courses to train their brains. The ability to think logically may be made the best use of in their future academic and career life. Besides, courses on computer science familiarize students with thecardinal principles of the computer systems. They are also taught the essential techniques to operate computers. Without doubt, the mastery of computer skills is critical in the information age. Therefore, these basic science courses are worthwhile for art students, for they contribute much to the enhancement of their individual qualities. In addition, taking science courses makes the campus life more colorful and interesting. The magical world of science is filled with mysteries. The process of solving scientific problems simply resembles going on an enjoyable tour. Taking in fresh concepts in the field of science also renders to the students a strong sense of fulfillment and happiness. Doing fascinating scientific experiments could be another fortunate privilege offered to art students who are often short of such experience in their own field of study. In a word, through the participation of science courses, students are led into a wonderland which is full of miracles and joy. Thus, the years spent at college will become extremely fruitful and unforgettable.

Last, the modern world has an increasing demand of talents with comprehensive skills. Even though studentsmajoring in other fields might not be able to probe deeper into science, the primary theories and skills encompassed in those basic courses would doubtlessly help them stand out as capable talents. In the competitive society, only those with a broader command of knowledge have better chances to win.

In conclusion, with the aimto cultivate a larger group of competent individuals, school authorities should encourage their students to actively participate in a vast range of courses, including basic science. There exists no absolute barrier among all school subjects. Covering diversified areas of knowledge and mastering extensive skills will tremendously benefit those who dream of a fruitful and successful future.
