Before entering adulthood, teenagers should be familiar with some practical knowledge that helps them establish a rational view on money. Without doubt, in this modern society whose foundation is laid upon the strength of economy, every individual is faced with the problems of expenditures. In order to make school-age children more financially capable and responsible, taking a course related to basic economics is supposed to be an advantageous approach.

To begin with, high school students are full of curiosities about the money-oriented world. It is during this special period of life that one's values are easily affected and primarily formed. Thus, in order to adopt a correct attitude toward wealth, they should be required to comprehend the most fundamental theories in economics. Under the overpowering influences of the information age, young people severely lack the common sense and the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. Witnessing the variedfinancial conducts of adults, they would instinctively wonder about the truth hidden inside. Thereafter, they might receive some misleading information and be negatively influenced. Misunderstandings, misconceptions and misjudgments should be the greatest hazard to the innocent minds of teenagers. Learning the fundamental knowledge and theories should be a best way to avoid such a hazard.

Furthermore, mastering some basic knowledge about economics helps teenagers make practical and feasible plans for their future academic and career life. Such plans should be sketched out as early as possible so as to ensure their smooth and effective implementation afterwards. In fact, economics focuses on the study of what constitutes rational human behavior in the endeavor to fulfill needs and wants. Obtaining comprehension about these issues enables young people to look ahead into the future more clearly. Thus, a scientific plan could be drawn up under the guidelines elaborated in the economics class.

Finally, courses on basic economics could also teach students how to spend, use and save money. These are problems they are already faced with in daily life. Forinstance, they may encounter the problem of having only limited savings with which to fulfill their personal needs. As a result, certain choices have to be made to deal with the amount of money available properly. A portion could be spent on books or educational tools. And the rest may be used for entertainment, like going to the cinema or taking a short trip. Some practical knowledge in basic economics just shows the students how to calculate money and arrange it in the most effective way.

All in all, economics belongs to the branch of science that is closely related to the life of all social members, including those who have not yet arrived at adulthood. The above-mentioned reasons are combined together to justify the necessity for high school students to take a preliminary course on this field of studies. In effect, it does not only bring practical benefits to their present, but also to their future.
