Nowadays, many parents tend to exert too much pressure on their children and play the decisive role in determining their future. In spite of the fact that it is the destined responsibility on the part of the parents to make important decisions for their children and offer the most reasonable guidelines to help them become mature and successful, children should not be deprived of the freedom to make their own choices.

To begin with, allowing children to make their own choices motivates them to work harder with enhanced enthusiasm and efficiency. In the meantime, their abilities could be strengthened and they will become more independent than before. To illustrate from the psychological angle, if a child is chiefly responsible for an important decision, he may become more conscious about the effectiveness of his own choice. If it finally proves to be dissatisfying, no one else is to blame but himself. Therefore, in order to avoid such an embarrassment and fully testifythe correctness of his choice, he has to strive for a better outcome by working more diligently and attentively. Cherishing the expectation for others' acknowledgement, he is likely to make himself more competent and qualified at last. After all, where there is a will, there is a way. Such an impetus is boundto be powerful and effective.

In fact, whenever a critical decision has to be made, parents should know their children thoroughly and respect their interests instead of holding fast to their absolute authority. Anyhow, it is the children rather than the parents who should play the leading role. If the parents' choice goes against the preference of their children, under no circumstances could it be adopted. Thereafter, the parents are required to communicate extensively with their children and obtain a deeper understanding of their interests, merits and shortcomings, ambitions and other details. All these are closely related to the children's future development.

Meanwhile, they are also advised to ask their children to express their opinions about the future and cherish their values.Admittedly, it is most desirable for the children to makechoices under the reasonable support from their parents. Due to their rich life experience and mature thoughts, adults are able to make more objective and correct judgment than the innocent children. As the enlightening teacher of their children, parents have the obligation to prevent them from making immoral choices. Thus, they should help supervise the conducts of their children and offer constructive and useful guidelines for them from time to time. Children are in need of their help both spiritually and practically.

Therefore, all wise parents should take charge of offering the most sincere and helpful suggestions for their children whenever important decisions are being made. In the meantime, children should also be allowed to determine their own future based on their personal preferences and abilities. Only through the combined efforts of parents and children could the best result be achieved.

事实上，每当面临重要抉择的时候，家长应当彻底了解他们的孩子，并且尊重他们的兴趣，而并非总是高高在上掌控绝对权威。不管怎样，主角是孩子而不是家长。如果父母的选择有悖于孩子的偏好，那么无论如何都不应被采纳。因此，父母必须与孩子进行广泛的交流，以便更深入地了解他们的兴趣、优缺点、理想以及其他详细情况。这些都与他们的未来发展联系紧密。同时，他们也应当让孩子表达出其对未来的想法，并且珍视他们的理念。

不可否认，孩子们最好在父母合理的帮助下作出选择。由于拥有丰富的人生经验和成熟的思想，成年人会比涉世未深的孩子更易作出客观、准确的判断。作为孩子的启蒙老师，父母有义务阻止子女做出不道德的选择。所以他们应当帮助监督其行为，并且时常给予建设性的和有用的指导。孩子们需要从父母那些得到精神上的和实际上的帮助。

因此，每当作重要决定的时候，所有明智的父母都有责任给予孩子最真诚且最有用的建议。同时，也应当允许孩子根据自己的个人兴趣和能力决定自己的未来。只有通过父母和孩子共同的努力才能得到最好的结果。
