The unprecedented boom of the word's show business owes much to the highly advanced international trade market today. With an enlarged volume of imports and exports among different countries, it is self-evident that people have an increasing demand of foreign movies and TV programs. Indeed, the ones produced abroad are no less interesting than those made at home.

To begin with, there is no denying that movies and TV programs produced in one's own country are closer to his daily life and easier to understand. The setting of background and plots, and the design of actor's lines all comply with the native customs, values and concepts. For instance, in some comedies, the laughing points are often hidden in the local dialects or slangs that could only be comprehended by the natives. It is difficult for the foreigners to grasp the central meaning, not to mention the subtexts. All these potential factors are combined together to makethe movie not as interesting as it is supposed to be in the eyes of a foreign audience.

Nevertheless, the overwhelming curiosity about alien cultures and features considerably arouses people's interest in foreign movies or TV programs. They might be even more appealing to some viewers than homemade ones. For instance, motion pictures featuring Chinese kongfu are a huge attraction to the westerners. Many of these movies made in China have won prestigious film awards like Oscars and the Silver Bear. This perfectly indicates the fact that home-made productions are highly welcome by overseas audiences. Among the most popular ones, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon can be counted. Another noticeable example could be traced in Discovery, the prestigious TV documentary series. Published in different editions, translated into many languages, shown through varied media channels, this successful TV program truly attracts the world's attention.

Furthermore, watching overseas movies or TVprograms broadens people's mind and helps them obtain deeper comprehension of social values in other countries. Withouthaving to travel abroad, audiences could gain access to the real-life environment of their foreign counterparts. Through the plots or scenes presented in the media productions, social concepts are vividly displayed before the eyes of the public. Thereupon, former misunderstanding and prejudices might be eliminated.

Frankly speaking, movies or TV programs made both at home and abroad possess their particular attractions to different audiences. It is unnecessary to label either type as more interesting than the other. People are entitled to have their own preferences and select whatever appeals to them. On all accounts, the thriving of the modern film and TV industry requires the co-existence of diversified productions.
