It's vastly accepted that such mass media as movies and televisions bear tremendous social responsibilities. Totally different from other forms of merchandise goods, movies and TV productions are unique commodities that could produce powerful influences on the public. Thus, every professional practitioner in the media world should be required to make their works beneficial to the entire society.What is shown on the screen should encompass contents that help the viewers become fully conscious of the importance to be good and the fatality to be evil.

Without doubt, one of the major functions of all movies and TV productions is to remind people to obey social morals. The entire human society is governed by law and there should be no exception. Those who go against the law and morals are destined to be punished. This concrete rule should be observed by all. As one of the most profitable businesses, the movie and TV industries are in the best position to arouse people's conscientiousness instead ofbeing solely obsessed with the pursuit of financial gains.

Furthermore, producers should be responsible of reducing the negative impacts mass media could make on the audience's mentality and behavior. In the information age, the media's power can by no means be underestimated. For instance, if too much violence is presented on the screen, many viewers, especially youngsters, may tend to imitate the evil deeds of the leading roles in real life. This definitely posts a potential threat to social security and stability. Thus, in order to protect many innocent people from being polluted and misled by the unsuitable contents of movie or TV productions, it is imperative for all movie producers to filter what is to be shown in public. In fact, the modern society has an increasing demand for superior quality productions that embody profound significance and favorable social values. Joint efforts should be made to eliminate the works that are produced with the sole aim for profits but extremely harmful to the hearts and minds of people.

Admittedly, as long as the bottom line of basic social morals is well maintained, movie and TV producers shouldbe allowed the freedom to create meaningful works with varied themes, contents and features. After all, modern audiences should be blessed with more choices. Thus, instead of being confined to a single theme, diversity has to be ensured.

Obviously, while encouraging the diversity of features, plots and types of media productions, professionals in this field should be on the mission to bring about positive effects to the society. Such a responsibility is of greater significance in the information age. As long as more social members appreciate the fact that the good are to be rewarded and the evil are to be punished, the essential values of mass media could be fully demonstrated and justified.
