The overall knowledgeand awareness level of citizens depends considerably on thequality of the teachers in the institutions of higher learning.With the aim of taking education to a brand new level, somepeople argue that college students should be required totake history classes no matter in what field they study. In myopinion, this idea is truly worthy of consideration.

Under no circumstances should history be forgotten.Marcus Cicera, a notable Roman politician, describedhistory as "the witness of times, the torch of truth, the life ofmemory, the teacher of life and the messenger of antiquity".Indeed, these titles were not given groundlessly, but ratherpresent the essence of history in a wise man's eyes. Peoplewho never look back into the past may not be able to moveforward into a prosperous future. No matter whichprofession a person has, no matter how high one's socialposition, it is a must for him to know the history and etch itdeeply into his mind. All historic events hold immenseknowledge, ideas and values. To beignorant of history is tocause one to lag behind at a slow pace. History can alsomake one more fully appreciativeof the present. To illustrate,learning about the sacrifices men made on the battlefields,people may appreciate how priceless today's peace andhappiness are.

Concerning science, taking history classes can helpstudents in a number of ways. In fact, history often repeatsitself. Learning about past mistakes one's ancestors madecautions people to not make the same mistakes again. This isespecially critical for a science student. Having done athorough study of the history of science, learning about thenumerous mistakes the scientists made and the experiencesgained from them, students become more conscious abouttheir own future endeavors. Besides, learning the stories ofpast scientists and their achievements can also inspire oneto strive for much greater personal accomplishments.

Regarding students who major in liberal arts, learninghistory is also necessary. In a sense, history is an excellentindicator of the future. For instance, learning about thehistory of law, law students would begin to realize theimportance of developing a fairer and more effective lawsystem in the days to come. Meanwhile, language studentsprobing into the lives of ancient writers and their works canenrich their minds and further comprehend modern literature.Also, learning about the history of different countries canbenefit those who major in foreign languages and cultures.

In conclusion, to prepare adolescents for a brighterfuture, education authorities ought to adopt innovativemeasures to improve the teaching quality. Included in theseproposals, is perhaps to require students to take historyclasses. This could be a rewarding experience for them.Whatever academic subjects students are focused on,learning more about their past will help ensure a morepromising future.
