Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The way a person is dressed in is a good indication of his/her character or personality.

At school, most students must have been taught not to judge by appearances. Undeniably, outward looks can never be the only criterion on which to evaluate a person. Any unilateral assessment might lead to faulty results.Nonetheless, owing to the enhancement of individual taste,people are paying more attention to fashion nowadays.Therefore, the way one is dressed in might be an indication of his or her character, although it can never be the best indicator.

First of all, one's dressing styles reveal his or her individual preferences, which are closely associated with the personality. For example, if a person often selects casual clothing in his or her daily life, including T-shirts, blue jeans and sportswear, he or she might enjoy a relaxing way of living and might also be interested in physical activities.Thus, there is the possibility that this person may be open-minded and easy-going. By contrast, if one usually wears formal clothes like suits, he or she might be businesslikeand treat matters very seriously. Additionally, if a person prefers very bright or eye-catching colors, he or she might be very outgoing. On the other hand, if one often chooses darker colors, he or she might be timid or prefer a lower profile.

Secondly, from one's way of dress some clues of his or her character can also be traced. On different occasions,people are supposed to dress themselves suitably. To illustrate, at dancing parties evening dress could be a best choice. When an important conference is being held,everyone present should dress formally. If a person frequently fails to wear suitable clothes on special occasions, he or she might be very careless in dealing with daily matters. In addition, if a person always wears out-dated and poorly-matched clothing, he or she might be backward in personal taste. On the contrary, if a person always succeeds in attracting other's attention and dresses fashionably, he or she might be smart and adaptable to changes.

In addition to dressing habits, behavior and manners are more reliable means to know a person's real character.Just as an old Chinese saying goes, "A distant journey tests the strength of a horse and a long task proves the character of a man." Thus, instead of focusing mainly on a person's outward appearances, we should attach greater importance to his or her daily behavior. Through long-term contacts,this person's inner traits will be further discovered.

In brief, a person's dressing styles give the signs of his or her preferences and individuality. From the clothes this person chooses to wear under different circumstances, we may also gain some information about his or her personality.In spite of this, it is unwise to rely totally on superficial judgments. One's character can be best known from how he behaves.

在学校里，大部分学生一定都学到“勿以貌取人”这个道理。不可否认，外表不能作为评价一个人的唯一标准。任何片面的衡量都可能导致错误的结果。然而，由于个人品位的提升，人们如今越来越注重时尚了。因此，一个人的着装风格可能是其性格的一种体现，虽然这不可能是最佳的体现。

首先，一个人的着装风格揭露了他/她的个人偏好，这与其个性联系紧密。例如，如果一个人在日常生活中常选择休闲类服装，包括T恤、牛仔裤和运动服等，那么他/她也许喜欢轻松的生活方式，或者也对体育运动感兴趣。因此，这个人有可能很开朗、很随和。相比之下，如果一个人经常穿西服之类的正式服装，那么他/她也许讲求效率且做事非常认真。另外，如果一个人偏爱鲜亮耀眼的颜色，他/她也许非常爽直奔放。相反，如果一个人经常选择深色调，他/她也许很腼腆或很低调。

其次，从一个人的着装方式可以探寻到他/她性格的某些线索。在不同的场合，人们应该穿着恰当。例如，在舞会上，晚礼服为最佳之选。而在举行重要会议时，出席人员应该穿着正式。如果一个人总是在特殊场合着装不当的话，那么他/她可能在处理日常事务的过程中非常粗心大意。此外，如果一个人总是穿过时的或者搭配俗气的衣服，他/她也许缺乏个人品位。相反，如果一个人总能成功地吸引他人的注意，并且穿着时尚，那么他/她就可能很精明，并且对变化的适应能力很强。

除了着装习惯，行为和举止是了解一个人真实性格的更可靠的方法。中国有句古话，“路遥知马力，日久见人心。”因此，我们应该更注重其日常行为而不是将焦点主要集中在外表上。通过长期接触，这个人的内在品质就会进一步显现。

简言之，一个人的着装风格透露了他/她的偏好和个性方面的信息。从他/她在不同场合选择的衣着，我们也可以获得有关其性格的某些信息。尽管如此，完全依靠表面的判断是不可取的。一个人的性格只有通过其所作所为才能彻底被他人了解。
