Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The government should support scientific research that does not have any practical use.

The diligence of scientists always deserves our awe and respect. Many of their achievements have brought about great changes to society, especially those that can be fully adopted in everyday life. Each year, an increasing number of research projects are being financed by the government.Admittedly, some of these research efforts may have no practical use. Some people argue that the government should not support such projects. In my opinion, however impractical they are, they still need official assistance.

First and foremost, scientific research is conducted for varied purposes. The field of science can be divided into different branches and research could be focused on any of them. Going through the history of science, we may marvel at the long list of scientific research done for numerous purposes. Indeed, not all of them are closely related to daily life. In addition to practical uses, other aims should never be neglected; they are of equal significance. But for them, the sustainable development of science can never bemaintained. For instance, there are millions of mysteries in the universe. In order to probe into them, much research work has to be completed. Regardless the practicality of the outcomes, people are granted better knowledge about the universe. This is a meaningful way to make human beings less ignorant. Even though such concepts and knowledge may not be put into use in real life, they are indispensable to human society.

Secondly, although some research cannot be put into practice at present, it might pave the way for future achievements that could serve practical uses. During the course of experiments, research methods might be renovated.Thus, they could be adopted in future projects that would t h en yield more efficient operation. Indeed, all research projects are dependent on each other. The concepts or theories in one set of research may be equally useful in another. Thus, all the efforts of conducting a single research project shall not have been made without avail, but rather they may become a stepping stone that leads scientists to greater accomplishments in days to come.

Meanwhile, the government should also attachimportance to reducing the side effects of all scientific research. Undeniably, some research achievements have incurred potential hazards after they have been widely used. To illustrate, if there were some chemical elements discovered during a research project, they could be adopted in medicine. However, if people are exposed to them, their health may be undermined. Thus, before the research results are finally put into practical use, thorough consideration and a sound oversight system should be maintained by the government.

Generally speaking, in the field of science, some research may not be carried out merely for practical purposes. As long as there is far-reaching significance encompassed within such research, the government should provide support to it. After all, scientific studies are destined to serve the common interest of the entire human race.

科学家的勤奋总会赢得我们的敬畏与尊重。很多科学成就给社会带来了巨变，尤其是那些可以被充分应用于日常生活中的成就。每年，越来越多的研究项目得到政府的资助。不可否认，有些研究成就也许无法应用于实践。一些人认为政府不应该支持此类项目。在我看来，无论它们是否实用，都仍然需要官方援助。

首先，科学研究是基于各种目的的。科学领域可划分为不同的分支，研究也可能以任何分支为中心展开。纵观科学史，我们也许会对为各种目的而做的科学研究的超长名录清单感到惊叹。的确，并非所有的项目都与日常生活密切相关。除了实际用途，其他目的也不容忽视，它们同等重要。如果没有这些成果，科学的可持续发展就无法维系。例如，宇宙中蕴藏着无数奥秘。为了深入探索，很多研究工作需要完成。无论探索结果是否具有实用性，人们都获得了对宇宙的更进一步认识。这是使人类不再那么愚昧的一种有意义的方式。尽管相关理念与知识可能无法应用于现实生活，它们都对人类社会起着不可替代的作用。

第二，尽管有些研究目前无法应用于实际，也许它们为未来具有实用意义的成就铺平了道路。在试验的过程中，研究方法会得到革新。那么，这些方法便可应用于将来更富成果的研究项目里。的确，所有的科研项目都彼此相依。一系列研究中的概念或理论在其他研究中也同样有用。因此，进行某单一研究项目所付出的所有努力不会是徒劳的，相反，它们会成为指引科学家走向未来更大成就的基石。

与此同时，政府还应对减少所有科研项目的负面影响给予重视。不可否认，有些研究成果在广泛应用于实际之后引发了潜在的威胁。具体来讲，如果一些化学元素在科研项目中被发现，它们可能会被应用于医学领域。然而，倘若人类接触到这些元素的话，他们的健康将受到损害。因此，在研究结果最终应用于实践以前，政府需要进行谨慎周全的考虑，并建立起健全的监管体系。

总之，在科学领域，有些研究可能不仅仅是专为实际目的开展的。只要此类研究富含深远的意义，政府就应该给予支持。毕竟，科学研究注定是为全人类的共同利益服务的。
