托福独立写作中常见的中式表达

新东方在线托福整理了托福写作考试时间、托福写作评分标准、托福写作模板等内容，今天带来的是托福独立写作中常见的中式表达，希望对同学们的托福考试有所帮助！

以下几个表达，你能看出问题吗?

1-In the process of playing sports, children can learn how to collaborate with others.

2-Taking a part-time job is beneficial and meaningful for college students.

3-Even though we make mistakes, we can summarize the mistakes.

4-If a person specializes in a specific field, his or her goals have more chances to be reached.

5-There are several points that might influence our future career.

6-Because the government has invested a large sum of money in education, so the economy prospers.

7-It is impossible to accomplish the modernization of all the cities overnight.

8-Chinese students will use a lot of “will” in writing.

以上的几个表达，代表了几个写作中较容易忽略的中式英语的使用。

1-In the process of playing sports, children can learn how to collaborate with others.

“在...的过程中”是非常中文的表达，英文中直接用 while/by/through/during/in/over 等即可：

Through playing sports, children can learn how to collaborate with others.

2-Taking a part-time job is beneficial and meaningful for college students.

中文中会有许多词语的赘用，比如“雄伟壮观”，比如“美丽动人”，比如”聪明伶俐”。在写独立写作的时候，我们的确需要通过准确和丰富的用词，向评分员展示我们的语言实力。但是，在学术写作中，我们也需要尽可能地做到简洁。

以上表达的问题，在于进行了没有必要的重复：如果两个形容非常地接近，保留其一即可。

3-Even though we make mistakes, we can summarize the mistakes.

在翻译“总结错误/经验/教训”时，summarize 不是一个好选择，它指的是对文章/观点的概括，而非“总结错误/经验/教训”想表达的“通过反思错误得到收获”。所以，我们可以直接使用learn from our mistakes/learn our lessons.

4-If a person specializes in a specific field, his or her goals have more chances to be reached.

“有更大的几率被实现”用have more chances to be reached 字面和语法上没问题，但这里用人作主语，使用主动语态会更自然：he or she has greater chances to achieve his or her goals.

5-There are several points that might influence our future career.

在表达“有几点会影响我们的未来职业”时，point 表达的是“观点”，所以并不准确;factors，“因素”，才是此处的中文真正想表达的意思。

6-Because the government has invested a large sum of money in education, so the economy prospers.

细心的同学一定已经发现问题啦：because 和 so 是一山不容二虎的关系，一句话里只能保留其一。类似的词还有 although/though 和 but，所以在这样的地方，大家一定要格外细心!

7-It is impossible to accomplish the modernization of all the cities overnight.

从用词和字面意思来看，从中文“实现现代化”对应过去的 accomplish the modernization 是没问题的;但是，它可以更简洁：modernize 即可满足我们的表达需求。

8-Chinese students will use a lot of “will” in writing.

中文中有一个“会”，常常用在“某人会做某事”“某人会怎样”这样的句子里以描述状态。那么问题来了，这里的“会”，直接使用 will 来表达吗?

并不尽然。我们会在描述将来发生的事情时使用“will”去表达对将来的判断/预测/描述，但“will”并不能很好地表达“孩子们会花很多时间玩游戏而不是做作业”“人们会用手机和朋友和家人联系”中的“会”，因为这两句话描述的，并不是将来，而是现在的一般情形。所以，这里更好的选择，是tend to/are likely to 或一般现在时。

更准确的描述方式是：

Chinese students tend to use “will” a lot in writing.

Children are likely to spend more time on games rather than on homework.

People normally use their cellphone to communicate with their friends.
