Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Schools should askstudents to evaluate their teachers. Use specific reasons and examples tosupport your answer.
No effort is being spared to improve the quality of education. The emergence of diversified proposals on reforms and innovations fully demonstrate the passionate concern from the public. Some people suggest that students should be asked to evaluate their teachers. This notion has won much applause, and owing to its potential merits, I express my agreement.
Above all, students are in the most qualified position to assess their teachers. As the direct recipient of knowledge and instruction, students truly possess the ability to give judgments about their own teachers. In a sense, the classroom functions as a grand stage on which the teachers are playing a leading role. Their impact reaches the audience instantly. With the passing of time, those who have witnessed their performances in class will gradually obtain the most objective and comprehensive understanding about their teacher's character, teaching methods, attitude, values and spirit. The students, who play the part of viewers andcritics, have mastered almost all the qualities required in an assessor. They may frequently ask themselves if their learning efficiency has been enhanced due to diligent help from their teachers. Thus, it is not exaggeration to say that the students' evaluation should be the closest to reality.
As for the teachers, they might be motivated to raise their level of teaching. Psychologically speaking, no teacher wishes to lose self-respect by receiving poor scores from the students. Determined to achieve the best results, they would definitely go all-out to improve themselves. The reminders from their students would keep urging them to perform their best both in and out of class. Thus, such powerful mental pressure might be turned into the impetus to create better teaching methods, thereby making their classes more lively and effective. Besides, greater importance will be attached to the students' responses during the course of teaching. These actions all pave the way for the quality-enhancement of school education.
Meanwhile, students may also be inspired to make progress in the process of the evaluation task. In most cases, when offered the right to judge their teachers, theywill naturally feel honored to exercise such a significant power. A strong sense of responsibility might also rise up.
As a result, the intensified self-consciousness might encourage them to be stricter with themselves so as to become more qualified to assess others. Being in such a mental state, they would strive to accomplish self-promotion along with their teachers.
In short, if this suggestion could be accepted and adopted by school authorities, it would benefit both teachers and students. As a matter of fact, efficient education should be a two-way process that involves mutual evaluation and support between the two. Therefore, with the purpose of promoting the sacred cause of education to a brand new level, each side ought to play a significant part.
全社会都在不遗余力地改善教育质量。各种改革创新提议的涌现充分显示出公众的热切关注。有些人建议学生应该被要求评价自己的老师。这个意向已经赢得了很多掌声。由于其潜在的优点,对此我也表示赞同。
首先,学生最有资格评价自己的老师。作为知识和指导的直接接受者,学生的确有能力对自己的老师作出判断。在某种意义上,教室可作为一个宽广的舞台,在那里,老师扮演主角。他们的影响会立即抵达观众。随着时间的推移,在课堂上目睹了老师表现的学生会逐渐对其性格、教学方法、态度、价值观以及精神有最客观、全面的认知。学生其实扮演着评论家和批评家的角色,他们几乎已掌握了评论者具备的所有素质。他们会不断询问自己老师的辛勤教导是否提高了他们的学习效率。因此,若认为学生的评价最贴近现实,这一点儿也不夸张。
对于教师,这项提议可能促使他们提高教学水平。从心理角度来讲,没有一位教师情愿因获得学生较低的评分而丧失自尊。为了达到最好成绩,他们必定会竭尽全力完善自我。来自学生的提醒将一直敦促他们在课内外都有最佳表现。于是,这种强大的精神压力会转化为开创更好教学方法的动力,从而使他们的课堂更生动、更高效。此外,教师还会更重视教学过程中与学生的互动。这些都为学校教育质量的提高铺平了道路。
与此同时,在履行评价任务期间,学生也有可能受到鼓舞并立志取得进步。在大多数情况下,如果学生获得了评价老师的特权,他们会很自然地因行使如此重要的权力而感到荣幸。一种强烈的责任感也随即油然而生。于是,增强的自我意识会鼓励他们更严格地要求自己,以使自己变得更有资格去评价他人。由于这种心理状态,他们将与老师共同努力实现自我提升。
简言之,如果这项议案获得认可并被校方采纳的话,它将给师生都带来益处。其实,高效教学应是一个双向的过程,涉及互相的评价与支持。因此,为了将神圣的教育事业提升至一个崭新的高度,师生双方都应起着至关重要的作用。
