With the higher degree of globalization, trans-national cooperation and communication have become more crucial than ever. For each qualified modern citizen, mastering a foreign language is more than a necessity, but rather a prerequisite ability. Nowadays, intensified emphasis has been laid upon foreign language education. An increasing number of primary schools begin to teach a foreign language in the very first semester. In my opinion, this is undoubtedly a beneficial practice.

In the first place, childhood is the best period for language learning. Research indicates that the brains of children are in a superior state to grasp the essences of a language. With a faster reaction speed and better memories,it can be much easier for them to assimilate basic grammatical points and remember new words and phrases.What's more, children are extremely good at imitating others. Thus, by listening to recordedtexts, they can follow the speaker in the tape and intimate the voice repeatedly. Astime goes by, they will gradually speak what has been stored in their mind. As soon as they have accumulated enough vocabulary and expressions, they may use them bravely in spite of possible mistakes. These are all key elements that lead to progress in learning a language. Such a learning process is more effective in children than in adults.

In the second place, children are more easily interested in foreign languages and pick themup naturally at an early age. As is generally known, curiosity about new things is the inborn nature of any child. In their eyes, the world is full of mysteries that are waiting for them to explore. A new language is one such. Just as the famous saying goes,"Interest is the best teacher." Inspired by passion, they may start to regard learning the language as a hobby. Reading interesting stories written in it, watching foreign cartoon videos, listening to songs by foreign singers, speaking and using it in daily life; all these are good habits in learning a language. If these habits can be kept persistently, these children will surely become excellent speakers in the future.My little sister is a perfect example. She picked up English as a hobby when she was only 7 years old. Since then, she hasstuck to it with perseverance. Thanks to her marvelous English skills, she has been admitted to a famous university in the United States.

Last but not least, learning a foreign language may help children grasp their mother tongue. Without doubt, children are also fresh learners of their native language. All languages are inter-related and learning methods are mostly complementary to one another. The skills mastered while studying a foreign language may be dynamically adopted in the learning process of the mother language. Through the comparison between the two, children can notice their associations and essential differences. Thus, they are motivated to use both of these languages often and their speaking ability will be tremendously enhanced.

To conclude, children ought to learn a foreign language as soon as they enter school. The earlier they begin to understand and use a language, the more competent they will be. Thus, with an aim to train them to become eloquent speakers of different languages, educators should strive to provide the best language-learning environment for young students. In any case, having a good command of a foreignlanguage is important for their future.

最后，学习外语有助于孩子掌握自己的母语。毫无疑问，儿童也是本国语言的初学者。所有的语言都是相互联系的，学习方法也大都是互补的。在学习外语中掌握的技巧也可以灵活地应用于母语的学习过程之中。通过对两者进行比较，孩子会注意它们之间的联系和根本区别。于是，他们会努力地经常使用两种语言，从而使语言能力显著提高。

总之，儿童应该在上学时就开始学习外语。越早听懂和使用一种语言，他们的能力就越强。因此，为了把他们训练成拥有不同语言才能的人，教育工作者应该努力为小学生提供最好的语言学习环境。无论如何，掌握一门外语对他们的未来至关重要。
