　　I have just received an email from my former classmate at college telling me that she plans to move to my city.Delighted by the good news, I couldn't help telling her a great deal about this city in my reply. Indeed, she ought to be well prepared before arriving here. With this purpose in mind, I have tried to figure out her preferences and thought of things to tell her about living in this place. Hopefully these ideas can be useful references for her.

　　First of all, its prosperous commercial atmosphere might be appealing to my friend, who is a passionate shopper. The downtown area is made up of several grand-scale shopping districts.Wandering on the streets there, people can visit numerous interesting stores with unique characteristics.Shopping there can be an enjoyable experience for her.During weekends, shops selling overseas brand-name products, fashionable clothing, books and other specialties offer sharp discounts. Customers are able to make good purchases at more reasonable prices. There are also manysupermarkets situated in different parts of the city. Thus,local citizens do not have to travel far to shop for daily necessities. In a word, this place is a paradise for shopping.

　　Secondly, citizens are blessed with more job opportunities in my city. Its huge market potential has attracted many international investors to establish companies and branches here. With the construction of an advanced economic development zone, an increasing number of enterprises have formed here. Among them, many are multi-national corporations which boast better working facilities and superior employee welfare. Obviously, they have a high demand for talented workers who are qualified to fill their positions. Facing so many opportunities, my friend would have no difficulty in finding a satisfactory position.

　　However, I have to remind my friend of some cruel realities she is going to face. The traffic jams during rush hours constitutes a major problem for anyone who works in this city. On weekdays, people can be stuck in long queues of waiting cars and buses on the major streets. As a result,much time can be wasted in the early morning or lateafternoon. Meanwhile, because of the release of industrial gases, air pollution has become another hazard to local citizens. Dirty air poses a threat to people's health.

　　Therefore, nothing can ever be totally satisfactory.Wherever people choose to live, merits and defects coexist.As long as some essential knowledge is gained beforehand,it is easier for newarrivals to find and grow accustomed to a new place. By presenting all the favorable points and negative conditions about this city, I believe my friend will adapt to the change of this living environment soon.

　　首先，繁荣的商业氛围也许对我的朋友颇具吸引力，因为她是一位狂热的购物者。市中心由几个大型购物区组成。徜徉于那里的街道，人们可以光顾无数有趣的特色店铺。在此处购物定会是她愉快的经历。周末期间，销售海外名牌产品、时尚服装、图书和其他特产的商店会大幅度打折，顾客可以以更合理的价格购买到满意的商品。此外，超市遍及城市的各个角落，因而，当地居民不必走很远购买日常必需品。简言之，这里是购物的天堂。

　　其次，市民拥有较多的工作机会。这座城市巨大的市场潜力已经吸引了很多国际投资者在此开设公司和分支机构。随着一座高级经济开发区的落成，越来越多的企业在这里成立。其中许多是提供优越工作设施和员工福利的跨国公司。很显然，他们对能胜任其职位的人才需求量很大。在如此多的机会面前，我的朋友会很轻松地找到自己理想的工作。

　　然而，我必须提醒我的朋友关注一些她将面对的残酷事实。高峰时段的交通堵塞是所有工作于此的人遭遇的主要问题之一。在工作日，人们可能被困在大街上那些等待车辆排成的长队里。于是，清晨和傍晚的很多时间都被浪费了。与此同时，由于工业废气的排放，空气污染已经成为本地市民的另一个危害，污浊的空气威胁着人们的健康。

　　因此，世间万物皆不完美。无论人们选择住在哪里，优点和缺点共存。只要提前对新地方有了基本的了解，新来者会更容易适应。通过对这座城市优点与不足的所有描述，我相信我的朋友会很快适应新的居住环境。
