题目： Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: Because economic growth is so important for modern societies, economy growth should not be slowed down by concerns about environment.

　　From my perspective, although economic growth is important for modern societies, economic growth should be slowed down by concerns about environment. My reasons are as follows.

　　To begin with, it is universally acknowledged that ignoring the negative effects of economic growth will definitely cause harm to human health. It is because development at the expense of the environment, such as the overuse of fossil fuels and dumping wastewater into water bodies, leads to pollution of air, water and so on. As a result, when humans live in such a polluted and dangerous environment, they are more likely to get diseases. Instead, if we consider the protection of the environment as we improve economic growth, environmental issues can be avoided at some degree, which benefits the well-being of human beings. Take the town I live as an example. It used to pay its all attention to economic development, so when it comes to deciding whether to introduce a chemical industry, it gave a positive answer. Unfortunately, the citizens suffered from it enormously, having to breathed in the terrible air, which was polluted. Sooner, a large number of citizens were sent to the hospital for breathing problems. After being aware of the negative consequences, the local government decided to get rid of the factory. Without polluted air, healthy conditions of the people improved. We can see that concerns about environment should be emphasized as it is beneficial to physical well-being of people.

　　Secondly, it is obvious that environmental protection can contribute to economic growth. The main reason is that enjoyable surroundings can attract many people to such places to visit and even live in. In return, the local economy can be boomed due to the income from tourism and the introduction of talents. Singapore can serve as a good example. Singapore is called the garden city. This place value its environment when it develops its economy, and it provides comfortable surroundings to its dwellers. It turns out that countless visitors from all over the world come to visit it, bringing a large amount income for the country. Besides, talents from other places, such as top computer programmers, lawyers and supervisors come to work there. They choose this place thanks to the enjoyable environment. This country certainly sets a good example for other countries who is struggling to decide between economy and the environment. We can conclude that protecting the environment can contribute to economic growth.
