Some people believe that students should memorize some important historical data such as the names and dates of historical events; while others believe that it is not necessary for students to memorize the factual information because they can easily find such information on the internet. Which point of view do you agree with?

托福独立口语参考答案

I think it’s necessary for students to memorize some important factual information cause they can have a better understanding. Historical events in many parts of the world are usually intertwined, and remembering the time they happened enables us to view them together rather than treating them as isolated cases. If students can create a timeline of the events, and also know about what caused it and what happened after the event, students can better understand the effects and nuances of history.

And also I think knowing such information is really helpful, especially when students are reading a book or discussing it with others. I mean mentioning a name will quickly allow the students to recall the specific event, so they can keep on reading and talking about it.
