When traveling in an unfamiliar place, some people prefer to use smartphones or other navigational devices to get around and find places. Others prefer to explore on their own and ask others for directions when necessary. Which do you prefer? Use details and examples to explain your preference.

托福独立口语参考答案

I prefer to use smartphones to get around and find places.

First, cellphones are able to provide real-time information. Like if there is heavy traffic in the morning rush hour, or some roads are under construction, my phone will find the best routes that are faster, and the roads won’t turn out to be dead ends. This will save me a lot of trouble and help me save time.

Instead, if I ask local people, it will be difficult for me to understand them, especially in a foreign country like in Japan. I don’t speak the local language; how can I ask people for direction. We won’t be able to communicate. So, it won’t work even though I want to ask local people.
