The reading passage indicates three possible solutions of stop cane toads from spreading in Australia. However, based on the listening, none of the measures mentioned in the reading is successful and might cause unwanted environmental damage.

First of all, the reading claims that building a national fence can be effective in prevent the proliferation of cane toads. However, the professor’s lecture contradicts what the reading maintains. She argues in the lecture that a national fence will not stop the spread of toads for the reason that young toads and their eggs are found in rivers and streams. At some point there will be rivers and streams that flow from one side to the other. Such waterways can carry toads and eggs to the other side. Since a few young toads and toad eggs can establish population on the other side, the effectiveness of a national fence cannot be guaranteed.

Secondly, the author of the reading holds the opinion that toads can be eliminated by volunteers. But the professor in the lecture refutes this point by saying that these untrained volunteers would destroy native frogs which are endangered species. It is because distinguishing frogs and cane toads is not easy, especially when they are young.

Finally, from the reading, we know that a disease-causing virus developed by researchers can go a long way in controlling the cane toad populations. In contrast, the listening challenges this viewpoint. It contends that using virus is a bad idea because such method would cause terrible consequences for cane toads in Central and South America. Although Australia is far away from cane toads’ original habitats-Central and South America, some researchers and pet collectors would transport the virus to another continent. Once the virus carried by animals reached Central and South America, it would attack those native cane toads and destroy their populations. That would be an ecological disaster because in the Americans cane toads are native species and a vital part of the ecosystem. As a result, the whole ecosystem would suffer.

Parents always hope their children can become financially responsible adults, because such virtue is important for their children’s adult life. However, parents always find it hard to teach their children because responsibility is hard-to-understand to children. Then here comes an approach: asking their children to manage money at a young age. In my view, such approach fails to cultivate children’s sense of financial responsibility.

Firstly, if children get much money from their parents, they would make some silly money choice, because it is hard for children to resist the temptation of things they like. My cousin’s personal experience suffices to illustrate my point. Born in an affluent family, on a weekly basis he could have 50 dollars given by his father. His father’s purpose was to raise his son’s awareness of money management since he was a little boy. However, the picture was quite the opposite: he bought a Nintendo console for his friend as a birthday present, which is quite expensive for a pupil as his age. In addition to this, he spent 500 dollars inviting a band for this own birthday party and bought a lot of chocolates, gifts, toys for those attended his party. Cartoon books, models piled up his bookshelf. Although he had owned three pair of Nike sneakers, he still bought a new pair because his icon LeBron James once put on the same shoes playing basketball. This case can strongly indicate that children are likely to waste money if being allowed to manage money at young age.

From my perspective, parents should set good examples to their children. Specially, if parents neglect the importance of establishing a budget, their children are less likely to avoid going further in debt when they grow up. On the other hand, if parents set a personal budget to stick to going forward, their children would follow and develop such good habit in their adult life. In addition, parents should have fun on the Cheap. While going to expensive party and bars is okay once in a while, parents must look to see what cheaper entertainment options are being provided by communities, like ball games, free movies, and so on, which can help their children have a sense of saving money. Furthermore, parent should always pay their bills on time. Like what his father did, a friend of mine always pay his bills like electricity bills, bank loans on time through the use of online bill-pay tools and other bill-pay services.

In conclusion, it is improper to give young children a permission to manage their money at a young age.
