TASK 1

Some people think that universities should require all students to study at least one humanity subject, such as philosophy or literature, while some students who major in science and maths think that there’s no need for them to study these subjects. What do you think?

TASK 1参考答案

Personally, I don’t think that the university should require all students to take one humanity course.

The main reason is that there are a lot of students who are not interested in humanity subjects, not just science students. And when students are forced to learn something, they're not able to stay motivated and dedicated. They will treat the assignments and classes as a chore and nuisance, and they will not put their hearts into it. So, they will end up learning nothing, and it’s just gonna be a complete waste of time.

Besides, I think students are already super busy. They are under a lot of academic pressure. So, if they have to squeeze some time from their hectic schedule to study literature or philosophy, it may affect their performance on other important academic subjects.

TASK 2

阅读

proposal，学生提议在暑假的时候把空余的一间宿舍，租给来到当地的travelers

理由1 学校挣点钱;

理由2可以让travelers和学生们交流一下。

听力

conversation是混合态度

第一个是不同意的。学校挣不了太多钱。因为dorm room不够fancy很basic，而且他们还要附额外的additional cost，like the stuff and also the electricity bills。

第二个同意。因为他们这个地方是good place for people to come there，因为如果travelers想要知道一些stuff in the city, students are the best people to ask for，因为他们可以给一些local advice。

TASK 3

阅读

vegetative propagation 说的是植物繁殖靠的不是种子而是他们parent‘s stem 那种直接生根繁殖。

听力

听力就说草莓就有这种情况，草莓一些runner 触地生根会长成新的草莓。farmers经常用这种方法来保证草莓色泽和口味。因为种子繁育的草莓不确保味道和色泽，不好看和酸的都有。但是runners培育的就能保证和原来parent枝的一样高质量，所以他们选高质量的runner来繁育确保草莓好看又好吃。

TASK 4

cooperative learning，这是一个比较useful的strategy，但是在实施中会有一些障碍以及给出了相应的解决方案。

第一个obstacle是学生可能uncomfortable to perform in the group discussions，解决方案就是create a supportive atmosphere，或者是guidelines like don't disturb each other，这样子的话，学生的观点就会被尊重，还有可以被听到。

第二个问题就是学生可能会naturally work independently，解决方案是assign some particular roles for each student, so they must listen to each other。例子中老师会assign each student to read a part of the article, so they need to listen to each other carefully and share their points to fully understand the article.
