  Advocates claim numerous health benefits for meditation, many of which are supported by studies on the practice. 支持者们认为冥想疗法对身体健康有诸多益处,并且也有相关理论研究的支持。

  Still, meditation has not become part of mainstream medicine. 然而冥想疗法还未能成为目前主流的治疗手段。

  So researchers at Johns Hopkins University analyzed 47 previously published clinical trials to narrow down the most effective use for meditation as medical therapy. 因此约翰霍普金森大学的研究人员们分析了已发表的47例临床实例希望从中找出冥想治疗方法作为最有效医疗措施的例证。

  The studies involved more than 3,500 patients suffering from various issues including stress, addiction, depression, anxiety, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and chronic pain. 这项研究涉及超过3500名病人,病症涵盖从压力,毒瘾,抑郁,焦虑,糖尿病,心脏病,癌症及慢性疼痛等的各种病症。

  Apparently practicing just 30 minutes of meditation per day significantly decreases the symptoms of anxiety and depression. 显然每天30分钟的冥想会显著减少焦虑及抑郁症状。

  An 8-week training program in mindfulness meditation where participants have to focus on the current moment, 在一项为期8周的认知冥想中,参与者必须关注当下,

  led to optimal improvement in lowering anxiety, depression and pain. 这样可以从最佳限度改善如减少焦虑,抑郁及疼痛等症状。

  And the improvements continued over the six months following the training. 并且这样的显著改善在治疗后仍可维持半年时间。

  For depression and anxiety, the effects of meditation were as strong as for those achieved by taking antidepressant medication. 而对于抑郁和焦虑,冥想的效果等同于抗抑郁药物的治疗所起的疗效。

  However, meditation failed to significantly affect any of the other conditions, such as heart disease or cancer. 但冥想在改善如心脏病及癌症等其它症状时并未能起到显著疗效。

  Nevertheless, while some might view meditation as sitting and doing nothing, doing nothing does something. 尽管如此,有些人也许只是把冥想视作一种静坐,但就是这样的无为无我状态却有大用处。
