新托福独立写作题目解析:选择放松的方式

  In the past a few decades, there have emerged various entertainment choices. Commonly, people choose to watch a movie with friends, read a book alone or do sports in the gym. For these three options, I highly recommend physical exercise as a better way to release stress.

  Admittedly, both watching movies and reading books can help people effectively release stress caused by study or work. Thanks to the advancement of filming techniques, movies entertain audiences with fascinating scenarios, famous stars and fantastic video and audio effects. As for books, the delicately designed plots never fail to arouse readers’ interests. Take comedies as an example. While people burst into belly laugh due to the exaggerated facial expression, funny body languages, and humorous conversation, the pressure disappears within seconds.

  However, as modern people spend most of their day sitting in front of the desk or the computer, it is necessary for them to get rid of sedentary lifestyle while entertaining. To begin with, doing sports is an ideal way for people to relax physically. It is a growing tendency that more modern citizens suffer from an array of health problems resulted from sedentary lifestyle and lack of exercises. To release stress and avoid further decline of health, people ought to spare certain time to do physical exercises. Sports, such as jogging, yoga, and swimming, allow people to stretch arms and legs, shed sweat, and hence improve blood circulation and metabolism. With improved health, people will gradually feel more energetic and vigorous.

  Secondly, by doing physical exercise, people are also able to relax mentally. Whether in a gym or on a playground, the concentration on sports can successfully divert people’s attention from troublesome tasks in work to body movements. For instance, while playing basketball with friends, people have to focus on cooperation and competition, offense and defense, etc. It is easier for people to leave troubles behind and even achieve internal peace. However, some movies and books containing serious topics, sentimental stories, or tragic figures may make people feel even more nervous and depressed.

  To sum up, compared with watching movies and reading books, doing sports is actually a better option for people to relax, both physically and mentally.
