　　The present-day education system allows more ways for people to improve themselves because of their varied needs and situations. Among the prevalent learning modes, some choose to follow a short process so as to join the work force more rapidly. However, I reckon a major with years of study and more career possibilities brings more benefits.

　　To begin with, people going through this long learning process will gain much higher salaries in job market after graduation. It is because more internship opportunities can be included and students could better combine what they learn in textbooks with practice. Furthermore, such majors usually entail extremely high standards, including much in-depth and lengthy reading, and long-time projects, all of which contribute to the value of these talents. It is not difficult to imagine that equipped with better expertise and more practical experience, they will become highly favored to employers. For example, doctors and lawyers, as is known to all, belong to typical high-paying vocations. These majors include at least four to five years of arduous courses combined with at least one or two years' internship in hospitals or law firms, especially for medical majors. Their textbooks easily exceed three to four hundred pages, full of elusiveexpressions and graphs. These graduates will cure patients and maintain social justice in the future, all of which are of vital importance to society, no wonder they deserve such decent payments.

　　Another benefit of the extended learning process is the potential broad human connections related to the specific major. On the one hand, the more classes they take, the more professors they will encounter, some of whom may be big names in their field. Thus these authorities themselves could bring more chances to students. On the other hand, enough time given, students could join as many academic conferences as they like to both sharpen their professional skills and make acquaintance with peers and other celebrities. All these human resources become precious assets after their graduation. For example, architecture major in China demands five years of study, including more than twenty compulsory courses. It is this large course capacity that allow students to meet with domestic renowned architects, because they are often invited to be visiting professors or some of them are even full-time professors. Some well-known national or international fairs of architecture, such as China-U.S. Expo of Architecture, are welcomed by students, since they could fully cooperate with each other and more importantly, they get a chance to speak with world-class figures like Jason Wu.

　　Admittedly, I am not denying the significance of a short-term major, because they quickly offer labor supplies to markets and people could rapidly convert knowledge into capital. It is true that these are important to society, but one thing which cannot be neglected is that most of the time these majors care more about mechanical skills and fast-to-grasp theoretical knowledge, which, when viewed from the other side, is more of a defect - More people could handle it, thus salaries will be much limited. Besides, getting a full-time job sooner means gaining much working experience, which could also be achieved through interns in a long major. With the above-mentioned merits, a lengthy major still wins.

　　Taking into accounts all these factors, we may reasonably reach the conclusion that a challenging major with more career opportunities outshines a short one with quicker access to job market because of higher salaries and better human connections.
