  TASK 1

When a new technological device becomes available, some people will buy it right away, while others will wait until many people have acquired it. Which way do you prefer?【重复2024年9月18日;2020 年 8月 23 日线下原题】

  Sample Answer

Honestly, when a new product coming out, I would prefer to wait a little bit.

Because firstly, this can help me to save some money. You know, when a product first

comes out, it is usually very expensive, but if I can wait for a month or two, the price is

likely to go down. So in this case, I don’t need to spend that much.

Besides, I prefer to wait because I would like to wait and read other users reviews. By

reading their honest opinions I will truly find out whether the product is worth the

money or not. As a result, I have a better chance to make a safe decision.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?Watching TV is a waste of time. Explain why and give details and examples in your answer.【

  Sample Answer

Well, I don’t think watching television is a waste of time.

First of all, watching TV is a great way for students to relax. Nowadays, students are under heavy workloads. They have tons of academic pressures like they need to deal with their classes, papers, quizzes and so on. If they get chances to watch TV programs, they can become refreshed in order to cope with their stress.

Also, some TV programs are educational and can help students widen their horizon. For example, there are a lot of educational programs such as historical documentaries and talk shows that allow people to accumulate knowledge. Those things are all helpful for students.

Some people believe that music education in school should focus only on classical and other traditional forms of music. Other people believe that students should also learn about current popular music in school. Which view do you agree with? Use details and examples to explain your opinion.【重复2017年7月15日】

  Sample Answer

I think music education in school should include both classical music and pop music, because some students may find classical music to be not that relatable. So if they only have access to classical music in class, they may think the classes are pretty tedious. In that case, they won’t pay attention and they may end up learning nothing. Instead, if school also provides education about pop music, students might be more active and more engaged in analyzing the songs and learning the lyrics.

Besides, learning about both genres gives students a more balanced understanding of music culture. Classical music teaches us about history and complex compositions, while popular music reflects modern culture and influences. Understanding both gives students a complete picture of music culture.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Good teachers admit when they have

made a mistake or do not know something. Use a specific example to support your point of view.【重复2024年10月26日;2020.11.22 线下原题】

  Sample Answer

Personally speaking, I totally agree that good teachers should admit mistakes and

things they do not know. I students’ daily life, they devote most of their time learning

from their professors, and lots of them see their professors as their role models and

try to look up to them. As a result, it’s extremely important for professors to be honest

with their students, and respect knowledge. If a professor pretended to know things

they have no clue about, they would be misleading young students and passing them

inaccurate knowledge. So, I believe that a professor should admit mistakes and their

  knowledge blind spot.

Some people think historical sites ought to be open to the general public, while some people think historical sites should only be open to experts and researchers. Which opinion do you agree and why? Give specific explanation in your response.【重复2019年9月7日】

  Sample Answer

Well, personally, I think historical sites should be only open to the experts.

Because opening the sites to the general public will cause damage to such places. Instead, closing the sites would ensure the protection of the sites so they can be used for research purposes. I mean, some kids may not understand the importance of the sites and they will damage the items by touching or even drawing on the ancient decorations and paintings.

In addition, restricting access is gonna be more convenient for researchers. Because they can do research anytime they want without having to worry about the museum being packed with tourists. It will be much easier for them to examine and study the items inside the sites more closely.

That‘s why the city council should close the sites to visitors and only allow researchers in the area.

  TASK 2

Children's Swimming Program at Campus Pool

  TASK 3

  Intellectual Property(知识产权)

  Costly Signal

  TASK 4

(2 situations where speciation may occur)

  1. 物理障碍的形成,举了美国大峡谷的例子,随着峡谷变得越来越深、越来越宽,小型哺乳动物如松鼠穿越它变得困难,所以在峡谷两侧有两种不同的松鼠;

(2 advantages of being in a business network)
