　　According to the reading, Verbal and Nonverbal Communication can affect our message. When our nonverbal signals support our verbal message, the message is enhanced, but if the nonverbal signals don’t support the verbal message, what someone communicates can have an entirely different message than intended. To illustrate this concept, the professor cites himself in a couple of examples. In the 1st example, he talks about seeing his uncle Pete and how happy he was to see him, with his wife telling him later that his eyes got all big and he was jumping up and down. In the 2nd example, he was with his daughter using a hammer and hit his thumb really hard and hurt himself, and though he tried to tell his daughter he was ok, his face was contorted in a lot of pain so she didn’t believe him. So in the 1st example, as the reading puts it, his “nonverbal signals agreed with the verbal message” while in the 2nd example, his “nonverbal signals conflicted with the verbal message”.
