TASK 1

Children learning to play musical instruments often want to stop taking music lessons because they don't like to practice. Some people think that children should be made to continue taking lessons. Others think that children should decide for themselves whether or not to continue. Which view do you agree with?

Sample Answer

Well I definitely think that children should decide on their own. The reason is quite obvious: why make children do something that they have no interest in at all? Especially when this course doesn’t benefit their overall academic performance. When there is no interest, there will not be any motivation. Plus, not all kids are born to be artistic. I understand why learning musical instruments helps children to build up a sense of art appreciation, but for those who are better at sports or math, it is nothing but a waste of time. They might as well spend more time on the stuff which they have passion for.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The first impressions and opinions one forms of a person upon meeting him or her for the first time are usually accurate and reliable.

Sample Answer

Well I think the first impressions we have about a person are usually wrong.

The primary reason is that many people feel nervous and self-conscious when they meet someone for the first time, so they're unlikely to display their real individual personality. Take myself as an example, I'm actually a very extroverted person, but a lot of my friends told me that the first time they met me they all thought that I was this really introverted girl. I guess this has something to do with me feeling really nervous around strangers.

In addition, first impressions of others are usually based on their appearances. But

appearances can be quite deceiving and has nothing to do with a person's qualities and personality traits. In that case, first impressions and opinions are definitely not accurate and reliable.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? You should always ask your friends' permission before posting photographs of them on social media.

Sample Answer

Well, personally I think it is disrespectful for us to post photos of our friends without consent and we should definitely ask for permission first.

Because clearly, this is an invasion of privacy. Sometimes our friends don’t want to be disturbed by cameras. I mean, some of them are self-conscious—maybe they’re not happy with how they look in that moment, or they just dislike being the focus of attention—and others simply don't want their photos to be visible to everyone online, especially strangers who might stumble upon the posts.

Besides, nowadays you have to be very careful about the things you post online. Sometimes posting photos of my loved ones might end up revealing too much information about their lives or jobs—like a backdrop showing their home address, or even small details about their daily routine—and that could make them vulnerable to certain risks like scams or identity theft.

理由1:它是学校的象征;

理由1:她认为 tower 才是学校的象征,人们想到他们的学校时首先就会想到tower 而不是bell;
